5Top Quality, Great price/weight tent!!Aug 11, 2011

My first concern when I purchased this tent was the color, Citrus green?? I seen the blue tent offered by Mountainsmith, it stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl! The Citrus green actually does blend well with a green environment. The most impressive feature to me, is the ability for one person to put this tent up in 2 minutes the first try!! The aluminum poles are sturdy & of nice quality. The tent stakes are a perfect design, small, light weight and shaped into a "V" shape with hooks at the top to catch your guy lines or tie down straps. Zippers are of good quality as well, just think since they color coded the poles, they should have color coded the zippers to distinguish the window panels on door from the door zippers. It can be confusing to you at a 3 a.m. pit stop- when your half awake! Another reviewer commented on the "extra" material on the doors. I like this feature, not only do you have a window feel, it helps to regulate the temperature inside during 3 season use. It would be a nice feature if the fabric did zip all the way off for full view or for summer camping, so you can take it or leave it. Another complaint was made about the guy lines being too high up, I have no problem with that at all, it kept the distance between the fly and tent equal for better circulation.

I tested this tent in 55 degree temps. on a clear night. The gear vestibules are very small width enough for some boots, when I stuck my pack under it, it gets wet from the condensation on the tent material. I will upload some photo's to add to the other review. As for the inside, I'm 5'6 and tested it singly, plenty of room, a hikers palace! I love the new longer length no more head or feet touching the tent! The corner gear hammocks held my flashlight and smaller odds and ends. The top hammock was a great idea, but a little hard to use with a light installed. I used a Coleman mini lantern until I kept smacking it with my head, then switched to a round flat led saucer light w/ 24 led's, no more smacking it but hard to use gear loft. Tent was very sturdy, excellent ventilation!!!! The two vents on each door stay open, the two vents on each side of rain fly can open or close and they do work. Between the rain fly, fabric on doors and open or closing of the vestibules you have alot of control over the inside temps. and air flow, this is a great design! I really like this tent, it's top quality with a weight of 4lbs 12 ounces, which you can cut down a little by combining stuff into one bag. It does NOT come with a footprint. You can purchase one but my suggestion is some house wrap, like Tyvek or whatever brand you like, it's light weight easy to carry, as small as an emergency blanket. It's extremely durable & cheap!

Pros:
weight
set up
size
full length fly
quality stakes

Cons:
small vestibules
no footprint

UPDATE: camped out again, ended up in heavy rainfall & windy conditions. This amazing little tent held up great! A small amount of water made it inside, probably thru the vents at bottom of windows/doors. But minor! I was quite impressed as the wind was kinda freaking me out, thought it would become air born but did a great job!! I am glad I did use a Kiwi water proofing on rainfly, it helped keep it from getting totally soaked thru. It does ok without it but much better with it! Stakes have to be replaced- 2 bent & 1 broke, bummer! Also company says a footprint will be available in January- can't wait!!!

UPDATE ON FOOTPRINT: It is now available for $29.95 size small at Mountainsmith, no one else has it at this time.

5This is a great tent for the money.May 04, 2012

Last summer one of my tent poles frayed on the end. I stopped at an outfitter store in Cody, Wyoming to check out the 2-man tents. I was able to take a good look at the MountainSmith 2-man Morrison. I own a MountainSmith packpack and several fanny-packs and have been completely satified with those products so I gave this tent a look. I'll admit the color threw me off at first, but once I got inside and looked closely at its contruction and amenities I was definitely sold. The color coded poles, loops, and ground cloth make it a breeze to set up perfectly each time I use it. My first time camping in it was this past April at Tettegouche State Park, north of Duluth, Minnesota, on Lake Superior. The rain fly definitely provided extra warmth as the night temperature dipped below freezing. I love the air-vent in the ceiling. The tent material feels strong. I would definitely recommend this tent to my friends.

4Great tent!Aug 15, 2011

I just finished the Tour de Mont Blank using this tent and during the trail I got caught in a very bad storm in an altitude of 2200mt.
It was one of the worst storms I've been to and all around me people in tents got all wet - it was a storm no 3 season tent can hold. The tent licked very little from the stitches of the rain cover but it never really got into the tent (my bad for not sealing them before). All in all, for a 2000 mm rain cover, this tent is amazing.

The only disadvantage is the small vestibules on both sides but we manage to be 2 people in the tent with 2 bags.

4Great value tentMar 04, 2012

I bought the tent when it was listing at $149 and got it of $119. Really just an incredible value. I've used out about 12 nights total from August to early December 2011 with night temps ranging from about 35 to 65. Weather has ranged from clear and cold; damp, drizzly, snowy foggy and cold; medium rain, medium temps (50 ish); and clear and warmish. Performed really well in all conditions particularly the cold damp night (where if i was using my Black Diamond Firstlight single wall, it would have been a cold sauna and a wet down bag). Very little inside condensation (I'll trade off tent warmth for moisture free most anytime). Haven't been out in a real heavy, windy rain but i suspect it would perform well in that.

Tons of interior room.
Very acceptable weight (about 5 pounds). This is particularly true given that it has two doors (no more midnight crawl dance when answering the call of nature).
Really, really easy set up/take down.
Well vented, seems pretty water tight so far.

Two things that keep it from a 5:
Vestibules are small, at least you have two.
Pack a little "long" for my taste, tough to get it in my Osprey sideway above my sleeping bag.

I also own a Sierra Design Omega (4 season convertible) and a Black Diamond Firstlight. I highly recommend this tent as a great piece of gear at a great price.
