Not a long term solutionMay 16, 2012

The tent stakes seem well made, and strong. Apparently made only for the softest of grounds, as anything area that is slightly packed dirt will end up bending the tops of the stakes after a few hits.
The material is durable, but the design leads to the top, right where the 'hook' comes through, to bend. Would not recommend these stakes, but find a one made out of single solid material that doesn't have any welding.

Best beach vacation ever, thanks to these metal tent stakes!Sep 07, 2011
By Christopher Eric Wright My recurring problem every year is providing ample shade on the beach for my family of four, including our 6-year-old boy and 1-year-old girl. We have tried the 2-3 umbrella route and a "pop-up" beach tent with the plastic tent poles with cord inside. Umbrellas are ok, but need to be closed when it's windy, run the risk of flying out of the sand and becoming a weapon, and constantly need to be re-adjusted with the moving sun. A beach tent with plastic tent poles is worse and completely impractical. The one I bought last year for $75 was destroyed on our first windy day. So this year I decided to use my 10' x 10' tailgating tent (this is the exact one I own: [...]). My fear was, despite its heavy metal skeleton, the wind could catch it and send it flying like Dorothy's house in the Wizard of Oz. What I needed was long metal stakes I could drive into the sand with a mallet. I am happy to report these fit the bill perfectly. I used two on each corner and one on each rope, totaling 12. Even on the windiest of days leading up to and following Irene, when everyone else on the beach had to close their umbrellas, our structure never moved an inch. I did not raise the tent higher than its lowest setting because it provided the most shade that way. It required me, at 6' 2", to duck to get under the tent, but once inside I could almost stand up straight and sitting in my beach chair was perfect. Needless to say, we were the envy of the entire beach and the "hot spot" for all of the kids my son's age. I set-up our "condo" every morning at 9:00 AM and we spent a solid 7-8 hours a day enjoying the shade and real estate it provided. I will undoubtedly be doing this again every year in the future. One note, the stakes lasted two weeks for me, but started to bend after being hammered in and removed a dozen times. I am not unhappy with this fact, for $8 bucks, it's more than a worthwhile annual investment.

Works well for soft ground tent stakingMay 26, 2011

We used these as well as 4 other stake types on our last trip to assateague. The clear winner were the 12" plastic stakes for strength but these were a close second. I can see where many others think these are weaker than they look online. They are very thin and if hammered into hard ground they would bend. I used a rubber mallet into sandy ground and they worked well. They are easier to pull out than the plastic stakes too. For sand they have a good amount of surface area and if put in the proper direction they seemed strong enough to hold a tent down in a good wind.
makes my camping experince betterMar 13, 2012
By mkh Sturdy and long, mostly camp in desert sand like places so long is important, plenty come in one pack and they give me ease of mind when a strong wind blows.
