5Wife Pleased, Therefore Shoes A Success!Jun 07, 2010
By Stuart Steele
I bought these for my wife to wear on a hike up the to top of Hunter Peak in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The hike is steep, strenuous and rocky, gaining about 2500 vertical feet in five miles or so. My wife was very pleased with the performance of these shoes both on the way up (the slightly easier Tejas trail), and on the way down (the decidedly more difficult Bear Canyon trail). They were stiff enough to not transmit the stony trail to the feet, but not so stiff as to impede climbing, or to be uncomfortable. They had excellent grip in the dry and the wet. They proved to be waterproof when it rained, and look none the worse for the experience.

Wife approved, therefore recommended! :)

5comfortable walking/hiking shoeJan 16, 2010

I have heel pain from time to time so I need a good shoe. I put these on and there was no brake in time needed, felt good from the start. They look nice to - But Do Not by a half size larger like one of the reviewers said I did and they are a little too big and I have to wear heavy socks with them.

3Not what they used to be?Aug 26, 2010

I bought a pair of these last year and absolutely loved them. So much so, that I overused them and needed to replace them. I ordered a new pair and found that they didn't have the same support that the first pair did. It feels like the insoles are made of something different in this pair - something less dense, maybe. I am an avid keen wearer, so this pair surprised me. Still an nice shoe, but I won't actually use these for day hiking. My 2-year old Bronx actually have better support than these new ones. I suppose I'll need to upgrade to the Targhee before I go out into the trails for more than an hour or two.

1Very slippery shoes!Feb 11, 2010
By Karen
The soles on these shoes are extremely slippery on wet stones and surfaces. Kind of strange for a waterproof shoe! I was hiking on a rocky path and it was downright treacherous. It was even tricky walking into a coffee shop right after the floor had been mopped. Best to save these shoes for walks and hikes in the desert.
