Excellent buy for the average camperJun 28, 2009

I bought the Grand Manan 7 to replace an old Coleman tent and just recently took it out for a 3 night camping trip in Tillamook. The setup of this tent is pretty straight forward with a color coded part that helps you orient the rainfly correctly. I was very impressed with how well this tent breathed - way less moisture than the Coleman I had. Having said that, there are some things that you should be aware of:
1. Seam sealing the rainfly is a must at the very least, be prepared to do that *before* you go camping.
2. The instructions are a little weak, so if you haven't setup your fair share of tents, it might be a little difficult.
3. The poles provided are not those nice seamless joint ones making it sort of a chore to thread them through the mesh channels - this is the only reason why the tent gets a 4/5 instead of 5/5.
Hope this helps.

Exellent valueJul 10, 2009
By R. Plant I needed a tent with a packed length no more than 22 inches (exact) and of the few that met this criteria, this has the best combination of features for me. The most significant drawback is having to feed the poles through fabric sleeves rather than using clips. Since I do not plan to use it frequently, having the extra space and excellent ventilation outweighs the more difficult set up.

We call this tent "the boulder"Jun 04, 2011
By G. Parker Well, I give this tent 4 stars because of a few minor issues, but overall I am pleased with it. I have used this tent a few times now, including one night where there was a massive thunderstorm that poured on us. We did stay dry, although one corner of the rain fly where the pole connects had a minor leak. I had not used any water sealant or anything though, and it was only a few drops getting through out of a massive downpour. Those drops fell onto the main tent and didn't get in, but they did get the door on that side a little wet. If I use a spray seal on that corner I'm sure it won't leak anymore so that is easy enough to fix.
Now the tent was a bit confusing to setup at first. This is the first tent I've had where the rainfly is significantly larger than the main tent. I recommend you set it up in your backyard on a nice clear day when you are not rushed to become familiar with it. Don't try to set it up in the middle of the night, or when it's raining, if you've never set it up before. I set this up with two people always, it could be possible to set up solo, but it wouldn't be easy. The tent is roomy enough for 2 people, and an inflatable air mattress for two people, but there isn't room for much else. However, there is a lot of covered area to store shoes and other items under the rainfly. I do recommend getting a tarp of some kind so that the area you set out of the tent onto is clean and dry. Also if you set out a tarp before you lay down the tent it helps protect it from sharp rocks and sticks, etc.
We call this tent "the boulder" because when it is all closed up it has a very strange looking profile, like a low lying rock or something. Also, the picture for this item is inaccurate, it does not have poles to support the rainfly extension, that is some other tent, the next larger model up I think. I'll try to add a photo of this tent set up after I finish this review.

Eureka Grand MananAug 17, 2010

This is what we were looking for in a tent. A lot of ventilation and windows located closer to the ground that could be closed for privacy. This tent was easy to setup, the fly takes a little longer to put on then others. Also, sealing the tent took a little longer than I had anticipated

Great tent!Mar 03, 2011

I gave this tent to my brother as a gift, and this is what he has to say:
"The thing that stands out is the strong structure that is maintained even during heavy storms of wind and water. Also interesting is the wide aeration possibilities it has. The airflow is intelligently designed and has the potential for regulation in all situations and tastes. It is elegant, it looks solid. In my view there are two aspects to be considered as flow characteristics: One is that it is not easy to enter and exit.It is like entering in a tunnel, once you are inside, everything is good, but you have to crouch and crawl to do so. Another is that it is relatively heavy for the size, not suitable if I had to carry it on long distances on foot."
