Multi-functional and dependableDec 07, 2008
By J. Beck I've got two of these little fan/light combos and I love them. They're perfect for car/canoe camping, but would be on the bulky side for backpacking. I also use them in the bunk ends of my pop up camper. They do a great job of circulating the air and fending off condensation.
Used one on a recent canoe camping trip in some pretty hot, humid weather and it allowed me to sleep comfortably and remain sane. I woke up to zero condensation in my tent as well since the air circulation was so good with the fan in use for most of the night (I did turn it off in the early morning hours because it was getting a little chilly).
The fan moves a decent amount of air for a small one or two man tent (or bunk end), and the light is adequate to read by. The night light will provide enough light to see your way around if you need it.
You can also, with the creative use of small bungee cords, direct the air flow directly on your face if you're as hot natured as I am.
It seems to make good use of the battery power, too. I haven't run one out of power yet.
The magnet that hold the fan in place is VERY strong, yet easy to remove with a simple twist.
The fan blades are made out of a soft foam so there's no chance of injury from sticking a finger in the blades.
My only complaints are:
1. Switches are easily turned on when in transit (I always turn one of the batteries upside down to counter this problem).
2. The switches are impossible to see once you've got it up and running. So you just have to guess which switch does what and which direction to slide it. I guess over time it will become second nature, but right now I have trouble keeping it straight.
All in all, I'd say this product is everything that you would expect. I'd recommend it to anyone who will be canoe camping or car camping without electricity. I've been very impressed with it, as have my friends who camp with me. Several of them have told me that this is on their Christmas lists this year.

Helpful for light but fan was a big disapointmentApr 22, 2009

I used this in our tent for a campout. I hung it from the top of the tent and it was nice to have some light coming from above.
But for cooling or feeling the air move, you need to be within a foot or MAYBE two of the fan. Any farther than that and you don't feel a thing. The batteries were brand new so that can't have been why.
We live in South Florida and have been through numerous hurricanes and power outages in the last few years and I have a few battery operated fans for the entire family to use, so I can compare it to others out there. I purchased one at Bed, Bath & Beyond with which you can feel the air from 5 feet away. Now if I could only figure out how to hang it from the tent!

Two fans died within days of purchase.Jul 25, 2010
By DarrenC I bought two fans. One for me and one for my son. Fan gave me a good breeze. After continuous use (while sleeping) for two nights, the fan died. Light worked. I changed batteries anyway, fan was still dead. Seems the fan motor may have died. A couple of days later, my son's did the same.
I thought maybe it was just a bad run from the manufacturer, but another camper we were with had the same fan and same problem. I'm going to look for something better.

Handy, Versatile. Buy more than one. A SAVIOR.Feb 27, 2009
By JT from S.E. Texas We've used this little guy a couple of times. Battery life is great. Kept the tent comfortable on balmy nights.
After Hurricane Ike. I was without power for over a week. This thing became invaluable. It and all products like it are still no where to be found in the Houston Area.
I can't recommend it enough!
