Stakes snap offSep 24, 2010
By Valerie Coss

Just came back from a camping trip where we used these stakes to tie down our dining tarp. Every time the wind blew, the stake would snap in two at ground level until, by the time we left, we had no stakes left. Don't buy plastic ones if it is going to be windy!
Good Basic Tent StakesMay 05, 2012
By Charles I used these exact same Coghlan's tent stakes a couple weeks ago on a camping trip. I used 12 of them to replace the cheep metal stakes that came with my tent, the Coleman Sundome 6 Person Tent 2012 that I purchased on Amazon. We had quite a storm the first night with heavy rain and wind gusts up to 20 mph. The stakes held just fine at about a 35 - 40 degree angle from vertical. No complaints whatsoever with their performance. The key to a solid anchor on your tent is using a lot of stakes and lines (I used 12, 1 at the base of each corner (total of 4) and 8 out on paracord guy lines). You could go stronger by doubling up the guy lines and stakes if you know that you are going to have very high winds (i.e.above 25 mph). The went into the ground firmly and held firmly as well. I had to use a hammer to pull them out of the ground. They also cleaned up pretty easily too. I am giving them 5 stars, but it could be 4 because of the price. I bought my stakes at WalMart for $3.50 a pack, exact same style and packaging as the picture here on Amazon. So, if you have a Walmart nearby, I would recommend you go check their prices before you buy on here.
Note: These are not for use in hard packed soil with rocks in it. If they strike a rock, they will bend or break. I tested one of the stakes in that sort of soil and it bent at the tip. Still usable, just funny looking now.
Good and sturdy for sandy groundJan 10, 2012

Bought these for camping on sandy/gravel islands while kayaking. They do the job and seem pretty sturdy. Definitely good to have in the tent bag.
