4Great pack for the money.Jun 22, 2008
By D. Kuhn
I bought this pack for a 4 day backpacking trip in the Olympic national park. When it arrived in the mail I was impressed with the quality considering it was only $40 and was 4000ci. It held up very well on the trip. I was carrying some extra clothes, food, a sleeping bag, a little propane tank for our stove, a tent, first aid kit and several other things. Overall my pack was around 40 pounds and it was about as comfortable as a 40 pound pack could be.

I only had three complaints. First, there was no rain cover included with the pack, but this wasn't a big deal because i was able to find one for $10. Second, the top pocket doesn't detach for use as a smaller waist pack. Many packs have this feature, but it wasn't something I expected for a pack in this price range, so I wasn't really disappointed at all. Third, one of the strap buckles seemed to not want to stay buckled if you pulled on it to hard (to test and make sure everything was fastened securely). It never actually came loose during use though.

Overall it is a very good pack for the money. I have no regrets in buying it. If you went to REI or any shop like that, you would be looking to spend at least $100 for something similar.

5Great ValueJun 23, 2008
By Patrick Johnston "Camper"
I bought this product for a trip to the Boundary Waters in MN, and it was perfect. Durable material, comfortable straps, and the perfect amount of space for my gear. All of that plus the price can't be beat. I looked at REI and other outdoor retailers and there were similar bags for 5x the price!! If you want a sturdy pack at a great price, this is the one. There isn't anything that I've noticed being wrong with this pack, I suppose it only depends on whether or not you want a brand name pack for a lot more money.

5Amazing Pack!Apr 23, 2009

This backpack is so much nicer than I expected, and I expected it to be awesome just based on the reviews. Considering the price, it's HUGE and super comfortable. I received the pack a day before I was supposed to, which made me even happier. The pockets are roomy and the main compartment is so big I don't think I'm going to be able to fill it!! My boyfriend and I both purchased them and I'm half his height and the backpacks fit us both very well which was an added plus. I would definitely tell everyone to go with this backpack instead of anything more expensive... it has sooooo much more to offer at half the price.

4Great buy!Jan 11, 2009

I'll start out by saying that I would consider myself a moderately serious backpacker/camper. I purchased this pack in need of owning one that would pack both my sleeping bag and tent along with about 3 days worth of supplies (I already have a hiking backpack).

The pack seems to be nicely constructed, is made from very durable material, and is gentle on the eyes in terms of looks. Some seams have double stitching in places where it is most needed. There is, of course, plenty of storage on the inside of the pack (though there are no inside pockets), and the pockets on the sides are large enough to hold plenty of extras. The straps on the outside of the pack allow one to either attach further items or compress the pack vertically.

Overall the pack is quite comfortable, though not THE absolute most comfortable I've ever worn (I didn't expect it to be for the price). I'm a small guy and I'm able to fit the pack to me (it will adjust smaller than a 31" waist). The pack was able to hold my Eureka Apex 2XT tent, sleeping pad, 0 degree sleeping bag, small pillow, emergency radio, and a change of clothes in the main compartment, as well as my smaller items such as my headlamp and GPS in the outside compartments; around 40+ lbs in all. Rearranging my equipment would, undoubtedly allow me to add much more but I can be stubborn.

The reason I gave it 4 stars is simply because it's not the single and absolute greatest pack ever made, albeit EXCELLENT for the money. The zippers are standard size, not the fat kind that handle more stress. There's no compartment for a hydration bladder and no built-in rain fly. Keep in mind, all of this is nitpicky stuff, though. Additionally, the bag proves to be very tough.

Overall it's a very nice backpack, especially for the money. It's comfortable enough to allow you to carry plenty both inside and out. Definitely would recommend to anyone on a budget or someone with requirements similar to mine.

5Fits the bill for sure!Sep 17, 2008
By Boots and Boats "BB"
I've never been a serious backpacker so filter accordingly. I've used basic aluminum frame packs for 35 years now; usually 2-5 night trips over fairly rough country. It's not the age now as much as the mileage-enough to drive me to upgrade.

This pack cost as little or less than my 35 year old aluminum frame pack cost back in the day and it provides all the basic features one needs. The amount of space to weight ratio is good, the straps and pads are comfortable, it rides well with a load and it has enough pouch size variety to keep handy things handy. You can whine about this and that in a pack but this one will get you going with little investment and a high probablity of reliability over years of use.

Hike on brothers and sisters! Hike on!
